37

No - we haven't posted 37 entries to this blog (yet) - but we have been married 37 years today!!!

We started the day with a church (the exquisite cathedral in Helena) and a visit to the state capital.

The highlight of the day was a boat trip on the Missouri called the Gates of the Mountains.   In addition to much beautiful scenery we were introduced to the Monster of the Mountains and learned which President promoted Clark to captain.

Having learned a bit about the journeys of Lewis and Clark throughout our journey we ended our day with a visit to the Lewis and Clark interpretive center in Great Falls.    It was a good museum - with more information than I could absorb about their trip and the various Native Americans who befriended the party.   Among the fun facts to know and tell were that the men got out and drug the canoes upstream in order to navigate the Missouri and the Yellowstone rivers.  We also learned  that when they traded for horses to cross the mountains they dug holes for their supplies and sunk their canoes in order to avoid having them stolen while they continued their journey.  Upon return they dug up both the supplies and the canoes to travel back to Saint Louis.

We are off to Canada tomorrow to begin the next 37!
