The Buffalo (or are they Bison) ate my homework

Sorry I didn't get around to posting a blog entry last night.   I tried to claim that I did the post and then it was stamped out by Buffalo - but Kevin says my penalty for being late is to write about 2 days!

Sunday:

We started the day with a scenic drive - including a visit to Custer State Park's wildlife loop.   While the buffalo stayed a little further from the cars than what we saw in the video - the burros did enjoy the carrots.   Kevin made some friends who were pretty sure he had (or could certainly acquire)) more carrots.

We moved on up the road and enjoyed Cathedral Spires Trail.   While the hike up was quite a bit more aggressive than our Lake Lynn loop - the views along the way and at the top were well worth the effort.

The trail was off Needles Highway - which was a super fun road (easy for me to say since Kevin was doing the driving!).

Finally - we went through Custer (after 160K plus miles Custer the car finally got to visit Custer the town) on our way to the Jewel Cave National Monument.    Kevin loves caves so we have visited a lot of them - and we have to say this wasn't exactly a "Jewel".   We aren't sure if it seemed a little less exciting than expected because it was very long in size but short in features - or how much was because it was our tour guide's first day!   At least we got a stamp for our National Park's passport - so all was not lost.

I ended the day with a trip to the laundromat - so sorry that I failed to take any pictures !

This morning we went North to another beautiful area called Spearfish canyon.   The water was so clear that it seemed like the fishermen would have an unfair advantage.   We enjoyed a beautiful hike to Roughlock falls.   We then had lunch in Deadwood (which has been maintained as a western town - it is the location where Wild Bill was killed).  We returned to Rapid City to visit the Museum of Geology which has cool information about the fossils that have been found here.   Now we are back at our Airbnb for a break!!
