Beautiful Banff

What a beautiful day!

When we arrived yesterday in the cold and rain - I have to admit I wasn't too sure about Banff.   But after today, I am a huge fan.

We were a little concerned about having to pay for WIFI where we are staying - and learned that the iconic Banff hotel includes free WIFI and free breakfast.    I know most of those reading this would have moved in an instant - but somehow the $800 a night price tag made these wandering retired vacationers a bit hesitant to move.

We started the day with tunnel mountain drive and trail.   The hike up the trail was beautiful - but pretty tough. We learned that many of these trails provide Adirondack chairs at the top as a reward - and enjoyed a short, satisfied sit before the (much easier) hike down.

We wound around to Lake Minnnewanka (and a much easier trail by the water).

Finally, we took the Banff Gondola up a mountain with incredible views.   As you can see, Kevin was really enthused about hanging in the air in a small capsule over the mountains!  But he was considerably more enthused about the views from the top. The only downside was that the view from the top made tunnel mountain look pretty small - so we were then a little less impressed with our morning's accomplishments!

  1. Joseph was just talking about Banff yesterday, which he talks about often. He is trying to talk me going there for our 30th anniversary instead of Hawaii. Banff reminds of me of Arcadia National park, where we just visited. I still want to go to Hawaii.
