Falling water and fallen trees

We woke up this morning in our primitive cabin in Glacier Park a bit cool from leaving the windows open. It gets cold at night in the Rockies.

Our hike today was to St Mary's and Virginia Falls.  It was an interesting hike as it went through an area that was burned a few years ago and all the black trees were creepy. As we started down the trail the clouds got darker and it was sprinkling by the time we hit the first fall.

We thought about stopping here as Joseph has told me many times "you should only hike in perfect weather" ;-).  But we went on and by the time we hit Virginia falls the sun came out. Virginia falls was gorgeous and had one of the highest vertical drops of the falls we have hiked to.

The return trip turned colder and wetter and by the time we got back to the car we were ready to head back to our hotel in Whitefish where luxuries like wifi await us.

  1. oh, I want to see a picture of your primitive cabin at Glacier park! If you take Joseph's advice about the perfect weather, you will end up staying home a lot like us.

  2. Sorry we didn't take a picture. It was clean with a comfortable bed - and it did have a shower (that was just big enough for a 5'4" person - maybe not so great for Kevin or Joseph though!). Definitely the Kevin and Karla version of "roughing it".
